evaluation
Task 1a
For this task, i had to do some research as well as some practical work in different locations. The images i had to shoot were to do with different genres which i had explored before so i knew what they were when i was shooting. I went to different locations to do this task, these being indoors and outdoors and there were 6 genres so i took a total of 6 shoots indoors and 6 outdoors. In this task i found that it was quite challenging when i had to find things which fitted into the genres for outdoor location as i was limited with my locations.
The genres i had to shoot photos for were; documentary, travel, fashion, industrial, historical and art.
Looking at my photos which i took for this task, some photos i would re shoot if i was to do this task again as some had the flash used which appears on the object i was taking a photo of which ruins it. Also, i would try have more of a range of the things which i took photos off as a lot of the photos i took were of, for example, a picture when i then took a photo of. I prefer my indoor shots i took compared to my outdoor as i prefer the range i have and the angles at which i took them, and also the lighting.
Task 1b
This task was linked with the previous task i did, task 1a, where i went back to the locations i went to for task 1a, however this time i had to choose an object which i then had to photograph in the same locations. I found this task a bit tricky, as i had to remember which locations i went to and what i took my photos of, also because i had to think of ways to fit my object in with the location which was harder than i thought. The photos which i took i thought were a bit too exposed because of the settings which i had set the camera to, and some of them weren't very focused as much as i would of liked them to have been. My object didn't really fit with the objects in the locations which i had to go back to, as the objects i had shot previously in task 1a were very colourful and vibrant. Another thing i would change if i was to do this task again is would be more careful when using the flash as i found it took the colour from my object making it look dark and dull.
Analysing diptych's
This task was also related to task 1a and 1b as i had to choose 2 of my favourite shots i took indoor and 2 outdoor. I then had to match these with the indoor/outdoor image which i took with the object which i then made into a diptych on photoshop. This just means that the two images are side by side. The images which i chose were, indoor art and indoor documentary. Both of these locations were indoor, firstly im going to talk about the art shots. The first shot was taken indoors of a piece of art work on the wall in another building at college. I took the shot looking straight on at it at a distance, and didn't use the flash which i found made the photo seem more clearer. The other photo in the same location which i used my object to put into the picture, i don't like this picture at all. This shot was a close up shot which i zoomed into my object and tried to make this fit in which didn't work. The object is blury and so is the picture behind it and the picture looks too busy so distracts you away from the object. If i was re shoot this shot with my object, i would maybe take the shot a slightly different angle and also focus on the object so the background isn't as noticeable because it is very colourful.
The second shot i took indoors, was my own choice which was documentary in a different building at college. The first shot i took was of a christmas tree which i didn't use the flash on and the tree appeared quite clear when i took the shot. I like the way that on the picture, the baubles have light reflecting in them which makes them shine of the shot. This was a close up shot which i thought was more effective as you could see the detail on the tree more clearly. The second shot i took with my object in the shot was also on the christmas tree, however this shot didn't really work out. I placed my object on one of the branches on the tree and used the flash to take the shot. I found that this didn't work because the flash was too bright which made my object go blury and look like it had a bit of a glow around it. If i was to re shoot this i would make sure the flash isn't on and take the shot at a different angle as i think i took it too close.
Task 2 part 1
In this task i explored different camera angles which you can use when taking shots. These angles were; birds eye, worms eye ,low angle, high angle and eye angle. Before this task i had never heard about worms eye, high angle or low angle so i found these interesting when i was putting them into practise. The location of my shots were a range of indoor and outdoor. The angle which i found the hardest was birds eye because this is directly above something so if there is nothing to stand on to take the shot then it becomes more difficult. If i was to re shoot i would be more selective about when i use the flash as this sometimes makes my photos too bright and un focused. For example, i took a shot of some red pipes which i shot on an angle with the flash on which i found reflected of the beginning of the pipes so it made the pipe turn white. Another shot i took was a worms eye view of a corridor. I didnt use the flash when taking this shot and the walls and everything around the corridor are dark and are a weird colour so next time i would have to make sure i focus the lense more first before taking the shot . A shot which didn't turn out well which i would definitely re shoot is a shot at eye angle of a lift. I used the flash which reflected on the silver metal of the lift which appeared as a long line down the middle which ruined my picture because it is in the way of what i was taking a shot of.

Task 2 part 1

Task 2 part 2
This was part 2 of task 2, which was similar to part 1 however this time i took shots of images which showed perspective. E.g these being, rule of thirds and leading lines. When i went out to shoot my images for this task, i found this task more challenging than the first part as the shots which we had to take were harder to find as there weren't that many things which fell into the categories which we had to find and shoot. The easiest i found to shoot was leading lines as there were quite a few places which i went to and found leading lines, but the most challenging was rule of thirds which i found very hard tro find because of the location i was in which i couldn't find many things to shoot. If i was to do this task again, i would go to more locations which i then i could of maybe of taken better shoots making sure i got more than one for each of the categories. One of my shots falls into the category leading lines which i really like as i placed the camera onto a bench then took the shot which i couldn't actually see as i didn't check how it looked before i took the shot, and it turned out quite good i think as the lines nearest the camera start of big then get smaller as they are far away from the camera.
Task 3 planning
For this task i used a story board to plan my ideas on where i had to think of an inanimate object. I preferred doing this rather than writing loads about what i am going to do as i find it an easier way to get my ideas down because you can draw a picture so you can visualise what it is you are going to do, then write underneath about the technical things which you are going to do when shooting each shot.I had a few ideas in mind i just had to work out which i thought would work best. My ideas for my inanimate object were a card, a book and a makeup brush. Out of the 3 i decided to use a makeup brush as my inanimate object which i then put my ideas onto a storyboard . This was quite a hard object as it was difficult coming up with ideas of what i could do with it, I wrote the technical things underneath these being; angle, lighting and location.
Looking back at my storyboard, i actually added some more pictures in which i didn't originally plan to do. I decided to do this afterwards as i thought there needed to be more events happening in my video to make it more interesting to watch.
Task 4a
For this task i had to choose some music which i would be using in my show reel with my pictures.I had to make sure that when i was searching for some music, it had to be royalty free which means i wouldn't have to pay for the music and wouldn't be copying anyone else's music. I found a few websites which i thought would be good to use as they were royalty free. These websites were; purple planet, premium beat, bensound and incompetech. I searched these websites on google and found the most useful which i wanted to use was incompetech. I found this most useful because there were different genres you could choose from and what feel you would like as in what mood. In the end i chose a soundtrack called 'the life of Riley' which was a bouncy feel which i thought would work well with my photos.
My final show reel
Once i had a final idea on what i was going to do for my final piece, i could then begin to start making my video. I found this challenging as i had never made a video on photoshop before, however i followed the steps with guidance from a help sheet which helped me complete my video. I thought that my images turned out well, firstly because i used a range of camera angles when i was taking my shots, also i shot my pictures at different times of the same day which created a different look on my pictures as there was a range of lighting used. For example on quite a few of my photos, i used a birdseye angle so you could see the makeup bag witch you could also see the scale of the whole bag. Another angle i usede in specific for one of my shots which was when my makeup brush was on the floor next to my bed and my bed side table. I used a low angle shot for this so you could also see the scale of the bed and table compared to the makeup brush.
Some of my shots however didn't go how i wanted them to. For example at the end of my video, there is a photo of the makeup brush on the ledge of my bed side table which had artificial lighting in as i took this shot at night. This photo wasn't as focussed as i would of liked it to have been and also natural lighting would of worked better in this case so the detailing on the brush and its surroundings would be more sharper and realistic.
When i was taking my shots for this task, i referred to my storyboard which guided me on what i was shooting and what locations i would be going to. I made sure i had planned carefully and knew what day i would be shooting on so i would be prepared and would be able to sort anything if something was to go wrong. As i mentioned earlier on my blog in my planning, i added another events so i would have more photos and my video would be more interesting. I found that the photos i took did make my video better as there were more locations included.I decided to add more photos which was me washing the makeup brush, as this is a thing i do quite regularly so i thought i would add this in. I tried taking shots of this myself which i found very hard holding the camera whilst doing an action, so i used another person to do it for me so i then could take the shots the way i wanted them to be at different angles rather than all the same which i would of had to do if i was doing the action at the same time.
When i added all my photos to my film reel, i had a total of 50 images which helped make my video longer, also i had to play around a bit with the timing of each photo as i wanted them to fit with the music. I think the music i chose works well as it is a happy feel which suits the video as nothing is sad or dramatic in it. I think it was important to pick the correct genre for my video, for example if i was to pick music which was horror, the viewer would stop watching as it is not what the video is about because of the events and what my object is.
When i had added all my photos and sorted out the timing and the title and ending, i realised that the date was on the bottom right of my photos and it was too late to change them,so if i was to re shoot i would make sure i checked this first before i added all my photos to my video. I would also maybe have more of a range with the angles, for example i used the same of each angle quite a few times. For example, i didnt used the angle worms eye which i think i could have planned into my plan before i shot my photos. Overall I think my video turned out good apart from the dates on the photos and some of the photos which i could of focussed more.

Task 4a
Royalty free music
Royalty free music is an easy way to access music, just by paying a 'one-time' licence fee for the music then you are able to use it as much and whenever you want. You are able access and use royalty free music as it is not a form of copyright, and the majority of royalty free music comes from something called a stock music library where there is a library of music which you can choose from and are able to use because the music has already been made and licensed to use.
It is important that you use royalty free music so you are not charged for using any illegal sites or copying someone else's music so is classed as copyright.
For this task i had to find music which i could use, i then found a website which was royalty free music which i decided to use to find some music for my show reel. This website was called Incom petech. com which allowed me to download music for free whereas when i was searching other websites i found it hard to find free music which you were able to download.
