Juxtaposition

Above is a contact print of all the images which i took for this task of buildings together which showed juxtaposition.I didn't really find this task interesting as there wasn't that many buildings to photograph which had a new/old building behind it to show juxtaposition.

This is the first image which i took for this task. This in my opinion is my best example of juxtaposition.I chose to photograph in Centenary square as I knew there was a range of old and new buildings which would be good for this task. I like the way in this image, the new building stands out more because of the material used and you can tell it is new in contrast with the old because of the shape of both of the buildings are different which shows how things have changed overtime.

In this photo, i captured an old building which was in front of a new building. This photo didn't really turn out how i wanted it to as i wanted to capture more of the new building behind as you cant really see it in the photo because of the angle i was at and because of the sign and tree in front of it. You can tell in this photo that there are no similarities between the 2 buildings. For example, the old building has a different structure as it has columns and the material is all the same colour . In comparison to the new, the new has a lot of colour and glass in it.

This was my third image which i took. I don't really like this photo either as i was stood at the wrong angle to capture it effectively. It was annoying that the old building had scaffolding on as it ruins the shot a bit, but i think it makes the shot quite effective as you can see the old building is going to get transformed. The alhambra isn't really a new building however in a way it is because it has been done up on the outside to make it look new.

This was my final image i took. I don't like this image as i think i was stood too close to the buildings when taking the shot so it didn't work out. The new building is on the right and the old on the left,i don't think this shot was effective because of the lighting on the buildings making them look too dark in areas. I wouldn't shoot this location again because i don't think its effective enough to realise that it is juxtaposition.

Colour popping

This task i had to do on photoshop. I enjoyed doing this task as i had a lot of freedom when choosing my images and then choosing the areas i wanted to colour pop. I chose images which had a lot of bold and bright colours in them so when i went to colour pop the colours stood out.

This was the first image i colour popped. I chose this picture because i liked the way the sun rays was casting onto the building illuminating the green shutters. If i was to colour pop this image again i would change the contrast more so the green stands out more.

This was the second image i colour popped which is my favourite. I really like this picture which i colour popped because i had more freedom on this photo as i chose to colour in alternate windows to make it look more interesting.

This was my third image i colour popped. I like this image which i took in Bradford Town, however i dont think this image works for colour popping as the colour of the building I colour popped is too contrasted so doesn't really work against the black and white surroundings.

overlaying textures & creating borders

overlaying textures

For this task i had to choose a picture and then choose another picture of a texture which i had taken and go into photoshop and overlay the texture over the picture.

For this texture i chose a texture from a building which i took and overlayed it over a building in Bradford. I like the texture i used for this picture as it looks like lego bricks which creates an unusual effect.

For this image, for the texture i took a picture of a roof which has curved lines on.I chose to place this texture over this picture of a building which was outside so it looked like sun rays coming from the sky which i thought worked pretty well.

For this shot i took a picture of the roof in trinity in leeds, then took a picture of a plant for the texture, and this one is my favourite as i think it looks like an enclosure and the 2 work well with each other.

Border's

I didn't really like doing borders  as i think the borders dont really have much effect on my images which i chose.
This was my first attempt at creating a border on photoshop. I like the way you had a variety of borders to choose from, however i don't think they really enhance your image like previous tasks have. I don't think i chose the right colour border for this picture as they don't really go together well.

This was my second border i created. This photo was taken in the everyman cinema in leeds which i took quite a few shots of inside. I don't really like this photo as i didn't focus the lense properly making the image look a bit blury.I chose to experiment with a different border for this picture which i think looks dull and doesn't do the picture any justice.

This is my final border which i created. This was taken in the everyman cinema in Leeds of the ceiling. I thought this worked well for architecture and lines. You cant really tell on this photo but on the original photo, the light nearest the camera is clear and the others are blurred as they get further away from the camera. This is the same effect as the first border i created however this is more bolder as it has a slight different effect on it.

Trip analysis-Leeds

For this task, i went on a trip to Leeds City Centre to take photos of new architecture using a film camera. I got the bus to Leeds to meet for 10;30am in the train station, then we went as a group to Trinity. In order to take photos in Trinity, we had to have permission first which out tutor enabled us to get for when we were taking out photos inside. I found Trinity a really good place to take photos on my colour film camera as it is one of the newest buildings in Leeds and is one of my favourite buildings because of its structure.

I took most of my photos in Trinity and in the everyman cinema which is inside Trinity. I had to ask when i went into to the cinema, if i could take photos as a lot of places and shops wont let you take take photos. I think it is very important you ask before you start taking photos without permission as you could get in trouble and the place may take it further as they may think you are doing something dodgy.

On the trip i didn't manage to go to every building i would of liked to of gone to to shoot as they wasn't in walking distance, i would of needed some form of transport to get to them, and i didn't have enough time to visit all of them.Below are the buildings which i had planned to go to, and i would next time if i had more time and some form of transport;

Leeds Arena

I would of liked to have gone here to take some shots as this is a good example of new architecture. The arena wasn't built that long ago and i really like its structure as it look sort of futuristic and like something you see in space. I would of gone here when it is dark rather than in the daytime, as i don't think it looks as good in the day as it is just the same colour whereas at night it is lit up and looks more interesting.

 Bridgewater Place

This is another building i would of liked to of gone to. This wasn't as far as the arena however i didn't have that much time. This building is a really weird shape which a lot of new buildings are like today. If i had the opportunity to shoot this building, one of my shoots would be at a worms angle as i think this would work well because then you could see the proportion of the building.
